THE STORY OF ORIGINAL MATE
Mate is Argentina's national drink! While finding mate in France was difficult, Nina, a Franco-Argentine, always wanted to introduce mate to her friends and close acquaintances.
A Family Adventure
Nina, a French-Argentine , has been immersed in this dual culture since she was very young. Every time she returned from Argentina, she was disappointed and surprised not to find any mate in France, so her only supply came from what she and her family could bring back. And of course, when there was none left... there was none left... Until the next trip, sometimes far away!
Indeed, mate is the national drink of Argentina , and an Argentinian without his mate is like a Frenchman without his baguette. Of course, over time and even with the arrival of the internet, finding mate in France remained difficult.
Nina has always wanted to introduce mate to her friends and close acquaintances. She quickly noticed that the bitterness of the product was sometimes poorly received by tasters. On the other hand, the way in which mate is consumed, in a calabash with the bombilla and the very convivial aspect of its consumption aroused curiosity and the desire to try this original drink with its undeniable virtues.
A tradition passed down from Buenos Aires
Today, Nina has convinced her partner, Florian, to share a mate drink with her, and this custom has become part of their home. She began by having him taste mate with a little sugar, then with homemade flavorings, just like her grandmother Anna used to make in Buenos Aires.
Depending on the season, Anna would grate a little bergamot, add orange or lemon peel, or sometimes a touch of ground coffee. It was the richness of this dual culture and the family 's love of mate that led to the seed of Original Mate.
